Franz Ferdinand is developing a "whole new sound." Getting beyond the fact that the only band that can announce this and survive is U2, this seems like a mistake. Maybe they're out of ideas or something, which is valid, but they're not really the kind of band you'd follow into experimentation. This is not good news until proven otherwise.
Then again, the "whole new sound" thing did put me in mind of Achtung Baby, which in turn made me imagine a sequel entitled Achtung Bairn 2: Elaectreck Baegalae. So it's not a total loss. (That title may amuse nobody but me, but as George Michael Bluth would say, this is just the form my grief is taking.)
